What does a star rating mean?
The residential energy efficiency requirement in the Building Codes Of Australia sets a minimum standard for the energy performance of new homes. This standard is measured by the use of stars, where a minimum of 5 and 6 stars is required.
By achievng the minimum star rating, homes will perform more efficiently and the benefits of this are numerour and include:
-
Cost savings in running air conditioners and heating appliances.
-
Improved comfort all year round, naturally
-
Increase value of your home. It has become apparent that homes which are more energy efficient, cost less to run and are comfortable to live in all year round, attract more interest from potential buyers who are willing to pay more for this.
-
Minimise the environmental impact, greenhouse emissions and peak loads.
Mandatory Disclosure
It is anticipated that by mid 2011 that all states around Australia will introduce what will is known as mandatory disclosure. What this means is that all homeowners that sell or rent a house, flat and an apartment will be required to provide information to prospective purchases and renters about the energy, water and greenhouse performance of the home.
