My approach
I approach my business with an open mind. As a small business I try to be open and honest with my client, that's why I have a strong client base who refer me to family and friends. What I try to impress on my client is the need to understand the building process, from the initial design ideas, right through to the time the builder completes the building and hands over the keys. Knowing more about this process will empower and lead to better decision making.
What I like for my client to understand
I understand that building a home is probably one of the biggest undertakings anyone will make in their lives. Many take that initial step of engaging a building designer with very little thought.
"All they do is lay-out rooms and then draw up some plans"
Many think this is the main task of a building designer. In fact, in some cases that's what some offer, Ive seen it all to often and I can honestly say you get what you pay for. Unfortunately a building costs many, many thousands of dollars. And once built you have to live with the consequences of a decision made with little thought.
Choosing a designer should be given as much consideration as choosing a builder. Often little understanding of the benefits of a good designer leads to some hiring a draftsman solely based on price alone.
A trained building designer understands a building intimitely and can offer valuable and though provoking advice, whcih will lead to a better designed home befitting to its accupants lifestyle.
Designing for yourself!
The design process should be exciting and uplifting. It should engage you and everyone who will live in it. It should get you thinking and planning how it will fit around your lives. It should encompass all your expectation and desires. In short the design process is one that should involve not just the designer, but more importantly you.
